This photo was taken somewhere between West Kilbride and Portencross on a trip to swim in the freezing Firth of Clyde section of the North Atlantic Ocean. The journey the in the new car comprised of lots of jolts, stalls and Can's Rite Time album. Produced by Holger Czukay and with Jaki Liebezeit on drums, this is probably my favourite Can album. My first encounter with Czukay was with his song Persian Love which I used to listen to a LOT. During his time as a musician he successfully bridged the gap between pop and avant-garde and was a pioneer of sampling, mainly of snippets of shortwave radio broadcasts, recording them onto tape and incorporating them into his music. He eventually created a method of composition called 'radio painting', using shortwave as a live, interactive musical instrument.
